Gift Acceptance Policy

Types of Gifts

1. Cash gifts are acceptable in any form, including by check, money order, credit card, or EFT.
2. Gifts of real property or personal property may only be accepted upon approval of the Director of Finance or Executive Director.
3. Charitable gift annuities, revocable or irrevocable remainder trusts, or any other gift instruments that may result in a financial liability for Encompass World Partners must be reviewed by an officer of Encompass (per corporate resolution) prior to acceptance. Contracts relating to such gift instruments must be executed (signed) by two corporate officers of Encompass.
4. No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

Determination Guidelines

When considering whether to solicit or accept gifts, Encompass World Partners will consider the following factors:

1. Values – whether the acceptance of the gift compromises any of the core values (vision and mission statements) of Encompass World Partners.
2. Compatibility – whether there is compatibility between the intent of the donor and the organization’s use of the gift.
3. Public Relationships – whether acceptance of the gift may damage the reputation of Encompass World Partners.
4. Primary Benefit – whether the primary benefit of the donation is to Encompass World Partners, versus the donor.
5. Consistency – whether acceptance of the gift is consistent with prior practice.
6. Form of Gift – whether the gift is offered in a form that Encompass World Partners can use without incurring substantial expense, risk, or administrative impairment.
7. Effect on Future Giving – whether the gift may encourage or discourage future gifts to Encompass World Partners.
8. Effect on Organizational Status – whether the gift may jeopardize the tax-exempt or religious-order status of Encompass World Partners.

The CEO or CFO will consult with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors concerning any gift they deem as potentially controversial. In these cases, the Finance Committee will make the final determination as to the solicitation or acceptance of the gift. The primary consideration will be the impact of the gift on the organization.
